This week, we share a transformative story from the Pool of Bethesda that speaks to our desire for healing. The narrative invites us to reflect on our own lives, particularly in the face of struggles where we may feel stagnant or in need of change.

• Discussing the healing encounter of the invalid at Bethesda
• Exploring Jesus's question and the idea of recognizing our needs
• Drawing parallels between faith and having deep roots like a healthy tree

Join us as we invite you to trust in the Lord as the ultimate source of strength and healing.

Speaker 1:

Boys and girls, moms and dads, I'm so glad you decided to join me in this podcast today. I come to you from the book of John, chapter 5, in the first nine verses there, and the scripture says Sometime later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for the feast of the Jews. Now there is in Jerusalem, near the sheep gate, at the pool, which is an Aramaic called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered porches. Here, a great crowd, a great number of disabled people used to lie. The blind, the lame, the paralyzed, One who was there, had been there for 38 years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been there in this condition for such a long time, he asked him this question. He said do you want to get well? He said, sir. The invalid replied I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me. Then Jesus said to him get up, pick up your mat and walk. At once the man was cured. He picked up his mat and he walked.

Speaker 1:

Now we're going to turn to the book of Jeremiah, chapter 17, verse 7. But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, Its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. No worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. The heart is deceitful, above all things, and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Speaker 1:

Today we're talking about the fact that Jesus knows what we need. Jesus truly knows what we have need of, and we need to realize that we at times need help ourselves and, much like the young man at the pool, oftentimes we lie and wait for someone to come along and help us in our situation. And we need to ourselves learn to speak the word of God over ourselves and spend time or get around others that will speak life into us. But, folks, our confidence comes from trusting in the Lord. Number one Like the tree that's planted by the water, our roots need to run deep. And by the water and the streams, our roots, when planted by such a life-giving source, will run into the source and the roots will find the water and seek out its need. But like this tree. The tree doesn't worry when extreme heat comes, when drought comes, when circumstances come its way. The tree knows that it has everything it has need of. Just like this folks, we need to learn that Jesus is the source of all things, and when we have need of something, we need to go to him.

Speaker 1:

Let's pray, Lord. We ask God today that you help us to trust you and to learn you to be the one that we have need of, to know that your word is our guide, to know that your word will bring confidence and your spirit bring confidence, as we trust in you. Help our hearts be rooted deeply in you, God, as you are the source of life and when hardship comes, we know that we will not be stopped but, God, you will keep us moving forward. We ask God in this in your precious name, Amen.
