Speaker 1:I have a question what does it mean to live a life pleasing to God? In this episode we'll cover part one of Genesis, chapter four, as we uncover the story a powerful impact on two individuals by the name of Cain and Abel, the boys of Adam and Eve. We learned of the jealousy and the sin and the redemption and how it plays out. Cain the elder had become a farmer working in the soil, while his younger brother, abel, takes up the role of the shepherd tending to the flocks. The story begins to unfold when Cain and Abel present offerings to the Lord, and Cain offers the fruit of the soil, while Abel offers the firstborn of his flocks. Interestingly, the Lord looks with favor upon Abel's offering, but not Cain's, and the distinction here raises many questions, and one of those being why did God favor Abel's offering over Cain's? Was it the quality of the offering? Was it the heart behind it or something much deeper?
Speaker 1:Cain is furious and his face shows it. The Lord sees Cain's distress, speaks to him with a moving warning and he says this. He says if you do what is right, will you not be accepted? What a question. But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door and its desires to have you. But you must rule over it. This moment is a crucial juncture, a divine intervention aimed at steering Cain back to the path of righteousness. However, tragically, cain does not listen to the Lord's warnings. However, tragically, cain does not listen to the Lord's warnings, as we know, and he allows his rage and jealousy to control him and he murders his brother Abel.
Speaker 1:The story gives us this first glimpse of how unchecked sin and envy can ruin you. Boys and girls, moms and dads, sin is crouching at the door and it desires to have you. But I have good news for you. Today, as we pray, as we believe, we believe that we know that the Lord will keep us, that we live by his word and heed his voice and follow his direction, that he will save us. Let's pray, lord Jesus, we pray you. Help us today to live by your word. Lord, teach us to listen and to obey your words so that we may be protected from the wrath that sin brings into our lives, and we thank you in the name of Jesus. Amen. Listen next time for part two. The conclusion for this episode. Have a blessed day.
